Level Design
- Seat Of Power -

Seat Of Power is a map created for the final project of my year at VFS called "Chromeras" - a multiplayer battle party game; in which myself and 4 other excellent students created over the span of 6 months in the Unity engine. Seat Of Power is a map used for the DeathMatch mode in Chromeras.


So, when I was designing this I decided to go with a symmetrical map so that players never felt disadvantaged when it came to spawn locations - Additionally I wanted to give players elevation choices, do they want to stay to the top half of the map and try to keep control from above, or do they go below and weave in between the obstacles placed and collect as much ammo as possible. 



The placement of powerups was another choice I made that wasn't an easy one, through testing we found that some powerups although all of them were powerful for different reasons; some powerups were more desirable for the game mode "deathmatch" then others, the desirable powerups are more in the open where players have a high chance of being attacked and the less so are placed in tighter locations.

Like with the first map designed "Chromera Sanctuary" I made use of a heatmap for placements of obstacles/powerups - and also for tracking deaths and locations players spent the most time.  Through testing like this we found players wanted a location they could potentially "Hide" on the map; or a location the minimap wouldn't be able to detect them, thats why I placed 2 archways on either side of the map with a ramp that connects to the wall - this served as that hideable location shown on the right. ->
