Level Design
- The Relic -

For this project I created a 5 minute slice of a game where the player has to complete certain tasks all decided by myself. I had a bunch of fun creating this world and learned all kinds of tools and tricks in UDK.

I decided to make a level that is kind of like an Indiana Jones movie. The player needs to acquire an amulet from inside the ruins, then escape the mountain alive. I made the enemies have a rock material to make it seem like the mountain people have been awoken by this person taking the amulet. The level features 1 puzzle to complete, an alternate path, enemies with different weapons, a quicktime event and finally a boss battle at the very end of the level.

One of the things I'm most proud of was bringing a custom weapon in, although  the actual implementation was done outside of unreal scripting, It was more of a hack-job in kismet that worked out really well. I should mention I did not model this gun, it was done by the talented Ramy Hanna of 3D99. Another thing that I was proud of is that about half way through the game the player encounters a quick-time event that I made completely inside of Kismet

I wasn't too creative for the video, it's just to get the idea across of the level. Please excuse the lack of music.. it's got some just what was recorded with fraps excuse the sounds I didn't intend on recording too heh. And I'm also aware it says "Lighting needs to be rebuilt" It just takes so darn long to rebuild it, and It wouldn't have made a difference on what the player sees in the video. - Sorry peoples.

Below you'll see a Video of a playthrough of the level, I play up until the boss point but don't actually fight the boss - another thing I don't show in this video is the alternate path the player can take.
